A mother in Kentucky is facing several sexual abuse charges, including incest and sodomy, after authorities learned what she had been doing to her underage son.
40-year-old Kelly Lynn South will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of her life after being sentenced by Jefferson Circuit Court Judge Olu Stevens.
The mother, who is from Louisville, was sentenced on Tuesday after accepting a plea deal, according to The Daily Mail.
According to the Louisville Courier-Journal, South was arrested in October 2015 on five counts of first-degree sexual abuse, two counts of sodomy, and one count of incest after an investigation by the Louisville Metro Police Department’s Crimes Against Children’s Unit.
Authorities say she committed the heinous crimes against the child between September 2012 and September 2015.
At the time of her arrest, the then-38-year-old reportedly admitted to performing oral sex on the boy in question, as well as engaging in other inappropriate activities with the child.
According to the Louisville Courier-Journal, a grand jury indicted South for admitted sexual contact with her son on October 27, 2015.
At the time of the horrific sexual assaults, South’s son was between the ages of four and seven, authorities say.
“It’s unimaginable the suffering this victim endured and will endure. This court action held accountable the victim’s abuser and brought some justice for the crimes against the victim,” Kentucky Attorney General Andy Beshear said in a press release, which revealed the plea deal that was cited by the Louisville Courier-Journal.
Authorities say South has been jailed for 16 years, but very little is known about her case at this time.
It is unclear where South’s son is now or whether he was placed in foster care after his mother was arrested.
On The Daily Mail’s website, dozens of people left comments about this horrific crime.
“A supportive, loving, and disciplined mother is very important to every child. This boy is now forever impacted and not only has lost a mom, but could have trust issues particularly with women. I didn’t read the full article but hope there is a dad who can be a trusted anchor this child’s well being,” one person commented.
“If she would have been a man and did said crime, he’d be in prison for life. They may not say life, but he’d get at least 60 years in a prison which depending on his age would still mean life……” another person added.
